IDP Trio Takes on Monterey Half

Three athletes from the Idaho Distance Project will tackle the Monterey Bay Half Marathon for the first time this weekend, including one former Race to Robie Creek winner, and the reigning R to RC 2019 champion. Greg Montgomery (Robie 2019), Zach Perrin, and Erik Tieg (Robie 2017) will be lining up side-by-side on Sunday, November 10th to take on the 13.2 mile course.

Zach Perrin battles the elements while competing on the track for CU.

Erik Tieg celebrates his win at the Race to Robie Creek, 2017.

The out and back race will begin in downtown Monterey, progressing along Steinbeck's Cannery Row, and onto the gorgeous Pacific Grove shoreline. The race course offers scenic views of waves crashing on rocky beaches, Victorian-era homes, with frequent sightings of aquatic life along the way.

Race organizers are keeping a close eye on the Northern California wildfires. The Monterey Bay Half was cancelled last year due to poor air quality caused by wildfires. As of November 5th the Monterey Peninsula remains unaffected, however conditions can change quickly. The call to cancel the 2018 race wasn't made until the night before.

The half marathon is scheduled to begin at 6:50 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time with a forecast of mostly sunny skies and morning temperatures in the low 50's.

Best of luck to Greg, Zach and Erik! Run hard and have fun!
